Tours and tastings in Graves and Sauternes
Graves and Sauternes
With the prestigious enclave of Pessac-Léognan, located just outside Bordeaux, the Graves area is one of the oldest wine-producing regions of Bordeaux. Extending downstream along the left bank of the Garonne until the outskirts of Langon, this area features
soil with the pebbles that gave it its name. A strong, full-bodied and well-rounded taste characterizes the red wine from Graves, while its white wine is fresh and aromatic.
Another prestigious name can be found on this terroir : Sauternes. The Sauternes area produces the king of sweet wines and is the province of the Château Yquem winery; Sauternes wines are characterized by the splendid golden robe. Another peculiarity is that the grapes are harvested late in the season, when the "noble rot" caused by the Botrytis fungus acts on the grapes and causes concentration of their sugar.
